 Dear Designers,

Business is an ongoing process.

Nothing is the way you want it to be as you plan in the beginning. Nothing is perfect. And that’s OK. It is part of our job as business owners to keep improving.

Listen to me, I know that impatiently striving for "completion" is something we all do sometimes. We think there’s this magical point to reach at which we will  have figured it all out and things will just run smoothly.

The secret is, there is no such point.

With growth comes change.

And with change comes maintenance.

I think one of the most liberating realizations we can come upon is that our businesses will always be a work in progress.

Even when you’re making a million. Even when you’ve got a team of ten.

When we change our feeling of "When I finally get to particular point, all will be well" to the feeling of "This will always be a work in progress", we are able to calm down and enjoy it.

There’s an ease that sets over us when we realize that there’s no sweet spot where you’re finally "done".

These grand goals we set for ourselves are stepping stones, just as much as these smaller everyday goals that we set.

And this is great thing!

It’s great to know that there’s so much more to accomplish. It’s great to realize that your life’s work has the ability to grow and evolve with you. And it’s great to feel that you will always have this "baby" to nurture and guide.

Your real goal is simply to keep improving yourself.

So remember this when you’re feeling behind or impatient or as if you’ve just got to get to…(fill in your own personal blank)

One thing I notice in fashion businesses is the inability for the designers to believes in their selves as a business people, and this is one of the biggest hurdles in the growth of our businesses since there is lack of confidence in ourselves as a designer.  We tend to assume that we need to bend to what others are asking, instead of owning our worth as smart, capable, adaptable designers. The thing about not believe or having confidence in ourselves as a designer is that it keeps us from doing the things we should be doing in our business; the things that will make us a good designer.      Many time, I hear people say  "I don’t have time to do everything." And it seem to be a common plight of a startup/running fashion business.      When you get involves in many things, it can feel overwhelming and impossible to get to the things that you need to in order to grow.       Yep! i understand. I’ve been there too, and to be candid it’s really difficult. But I want to tell you a few things.         First, of course nobody have the time to do everything. So, stop putting the pressure on yourself to "do it all," "be it all," "have it all." This pressure is debilitating and usually leads to no progress at all, rather than progress made in stages.      You can’t do everything at once. It’s not possible.
